GDTF (Generic Device Type Format)

The GDTF Group have jointly developed the GDTF protocol for the purposes of creating a unified definition for the exchange of data for the operation of intelligent luminaires. This unified standard provides a consistent and dependable way to adapt new fixtures and devices in the lighting industry. GDTF is a benefit for manufacturers, customers, and users of lighting control systems, CAD systems, and pre-visualizers. With GDTF, the tools they use to perform their jobs will work without the need for advanced IT knowledge.

The DMX Plugin contains support for GDTF file importing for data parsing and asset usage. GDTF files contain information about a particular fixture type such as mode names, attribute names, default values, and more. The GDTF files can be used to auto-configure your DMX fixture types making project setup quicker and easier.

To import a GDTF file, you can drag and drop the file from a containing folder into the Content Browser in Unreal Engine.

The drag and drop operation will pop-up in the window. If you would like to import the asset into a new folder you can check the Use Sub Directory option. After selecting Import or Import All , a DMXGDTFImport asset containing the description data and attributes of a given DMX fixture will be created.

Only XML data import is supported at the moment.
