You can try out this Experimental feature, but we do not recommend shipping projects with it.
This feature is Experimental.
Features are sometimes made available in an Experimental state so you can try them out, provide feedback, and see what we are planning. We do not recommend shipping projects with Experimental features. Please keep in mind that we do not guarantee backward compatibility for assets created at the experimental stage, the APIs for these features are subject to change, and we may remove entire Experimental features or specific functionality at our discretion.

Control Rig Sequences

After creating a Control Rig Blueprint, you can use Sequencer to animate properties through a special type of Sequence called a Control Rig Sequence. Animation is achieved by interpolating between various keyed values across a timeline, similar to traditional animation software packages.

Creating a Control Rig Sequence

To create a Control Rig Sequence:

  1. First make sure that you have enabled the Control Rig plugin from the Plugins menu.
  2. From the Content Browser, click Add New then under Animation, select ControlRig Sequence and give it any name.

  3. Double-click on the ControlRig Sequence asset to open it up in Sequencer.

  4. Click the Track button then under Control Rig, assign you desired Control Rig Blueprint asset.

The Sequence will update and add the Control Rig Blueprint. The Modes panel will also update to show the available and keyable properties.

Animating an Actor

With a Control Rig Sequence created, to animate an Actor, you will need to place the Skeletal Mesh associated with the Control Rig Sequence in your Level and assign it as the target Actor in the Animation tab of the Modes panel.

Under the Units section, any keyable properties will be displayed which you can add by clicking the Add Key icon next to the desired property you wish to keyframe.

This will add a key for the property to the Control Rig Sequence at the specified time. You can scrub the Timeline to a new time, then use the Transform widget in the Viewport (or enter in a value manually in Sequencer) to move the associated aspect of your Control Rig and keyframe the new value.

In the example above, we are moving an end effector associated with a Skeletal Meshes right-arm and keyframing the new value which causes our character to interpolate from the starting value to the new key value.
