Virtual Scouting

Virtual Scouting lets filmmakers scout a digital environment in virtual reality.

On this page

The Virtual Scouting tools give filmmakers new ways to navigate and interact in virtual production environments, helping them make better creative decisions. Directors and DOPs can easily find locations, compose shots, set up scene blocking, and get accurate representations of filming locations. Artists and set designers can experience the location in VR while building it, using measurement and interaction tools to check distances and modify the world. You can also capture images from the virtual world, helping the whole production team track decisions made during the VR session. In addition, controllers and settings can be customized in Blueprint without the need to go into C++ and rebuild the engine.

Welcome to the new Unreal Engine 4 Documentation site!

We're working on lots of new features including a feedback system so you can tell us how we are doing. It's not quite ready for use in the wild yet, so head over to the Documentation Feedback forum to tell us about this page or call out any issues you are encountering in the meantime.

We'll be sure to let you know when the new system is up and running.
